Building on his successful second career as a writer of humorous travel books, David Dodge was a regular, and frequent, contributor to Holiday magazine for over 20 years. As an inveterate globe-trotter, Dodge was ideally suited to writing the types of articles popular with the editors. His short travel pieces often feature the same characteristics as his book-length travel adventures: personal--often funny--anecdotes, penny-pinching tips, and sensitive observations of local color and characters. Although Holiday was Dodges most frequent patron, he also wrote travel articles for Colliers, Vogue, and Clipper (the in-flight magazine of Pan American Airways). Late in his career, he contributed articles for a couple of Fodor’s guidebooks. His article in the volume for Mexico appeared annually for at least a decade after his death.
